Yesterday, at long last, was the Active Minds “Love is Louder” block party. I am pleased to say that it was a huge success. While I’m not a member of the group’s Executive Board (yet), I felt really strongly about this event.  You see, two of my best friends are co-presidents of GW’s Active Minds chapter and had the difficult task of pulling this event together.

Hundreds of students showed up to help the org. reduce the stigma associated with mental disorders. 1 in 4 people over the age of 18 have a mental illness, but only 1 in 16 seek help. Active Minds works on college campuses across the nation to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. The goal of the block party – aside from getting the word out about GW’s relatively new Active Minds chapter – was to celebrate the fact that “Love is Louder.” As students are stressing out about the rapidly approaching finals, it was important to let students know that they’re not alone, and that Love is Louder than: stress, hate, anger, frustration, prejudice, angst, depression, anxiety, what-have-you.

The event turned out beautifully and I feel lucky to have been a part of it. Since you probably weren’t there, live vicariously through my photos. And remember, #loveislouder.
